Conflux
Conflux is a solo piece created for the Remai Modern Gallery in Saskatoon.
I was chosen for the Dance Saskatchewan Residency program held at the Remai Modern, where the task was to create a new work inspired by a piece of art in the museum.
I chose two paintings to create my work about: a painting of a man walking in a body of water and a picture of lines that are definitive to blurred. I connected these visual elements to the North Saskatchewan River, just outside the Remai Modern, where the calm, sedentary water meets the disappearing currents on a windy day.
The dancer in this piece is investigating a journey in their body as their body enters movements quadrants that they wouldn’t typically enter. Leaving the dancer in a confluence. The speeds, temperatures, and compositions still remain distinct within each confluence—neither trait diminishes as they merge, and she proves that it is safe to interflow between both.
